Phetchabun

Locate in the heart of Thailand, 346km from the north of Bangkok, Phetchabun is the meeting point of three regions: the north, central and northeast. It covers the area of 12,668 sq km and consists of 11 Amphoes: Lom Sak, Muang, Chon Daen, Wichian Buri, Lom Kao, Nong Phai, Bung Sam Phan, Si Thep, Wang Pong, Khao Kho and Nam Nao.

Phatchabun is believed to be established by two kingdoms: the Ayutthaya and the Sukhothai Kingdom. The province used to be called “Phuechapura” or “Phechabuth” which means “the land of rich crop” for the reason that it has fertile soil and abundant natural resources.

Phatchabun lies in the extensive river valley of the Pa Sak River on the fertile soil which has made it a productive land with good farming and its old name “Phuechapura” means “rich in crops” due to that. Today, Tamarind is the most famous and cultured product and has become the characteristic of Phetchabun. So in February “Tamarind Festival” is held each year. The province is surrounded by a lot of well-known national parks, great lakes, picturesque waterfalls and the Pasak River flows through it from north to south along with mountain ranges in the east and west, which makes it have cool pleasurable climate during the year. So despite being an agricultural area, Phetchabun features a lot of atractions, not only the history but natural beauty.

The province is a place with rich potential tourism, from majestic nature to prosperous long history and local traditional ceremonies. For historical interested visitors, several temples are the best choice as the Si Theps historical park where three kingdoms once lived and you can see the remains of a prehistoric city as ancestors dating back from the 1100s. In addition, tourists have chance to explore some remarkable highlights as Phetchabun City Pillar, Wat Mahathat monastery, Wat Traiphum, etc and some magnificent natural attractions as Namtok Tat Mok waterfall, Si Thep Historical Park, Phu Hin Rong Kla National Park, Nam Nao National Park. Tourists also can find the agriculture of this province through the visit to Chul Thai Silk Company Limited where the sericulture and horse raising job are done; B.N. Farm which is well-known for cultivation of cold-climate vegetables.

For those wanting to discover the characteristic culture of this region, come to visit in fesivals season with Um Pra Dam Nam festival with Water Festival is held on the 15th day of the waning moon in the 10th lunar month; Sweet Tamarind Fair (January 17 – 25), which is called “Phetchabun’s Agriculture Day” for the reason that tamatind is the most famous sweet fruit here, there’s also agricultural exhibitions and entertainment performances taking place during the event.
