Lying in the eastern border of Thailand, facing Cambodia at Battambang, Sakaew is a central province known as a trading center. With the total area of 7,195 square kilometers, the province's terrain varies from plains to highlands, with the south covered with curved plains and hills and highlands & mountains in the north. Sakaew is about 245 kilometers to the east of Bangkok and consists of two King Amphoes and seven Amphoes, including Muang, Aranyaprathet, Watthana Nakhon, Ta Phraya, Wang Nam Yen, Khao Chakan, Khlong Hat, King Amphoe Khok Sung and King Amphoe Wang Somboon.

Sakaew used to be a major civilized community with the long history dating back to the Suwannaphum and Dvaravati kingdoms, which is based on various groups of remains of ancient monuments and architecture, as well as artifacts presenting the history and the glory of the past. The civilization of the province is featured through the outstanding examples of archeological sites of Khmer as well as stone inscriptions. Sakaew was one of six districts of Prachin Buri Province for a long time and was officially upgraded into a province on December 1st, 1993 and becomes the youngest province of Thailand.

Despite being a young province, Sakaew has a long history with valuable cultural and historical ancient remains. A large number of attractions include Sa Kaew Sa Khwan, City Pillar Shrine, Thungya Pong Krathing old village, Tha Krabak Reservoir, Luangpho Thong monk, Wat Nakhon Tham, and Wat Anubanphot, etc. In addition to the historical ancient worthy remains, Sakaew also hosts abundant natural resources as Pang Sida National Park, Namtok Pang Sida waterfall, Namtok Thap Sung waterfall, The Viewpoint Spot valley, A Group of Makha Waterfalls, Phukhao Chedi, Freshwater Crocodiles at Kaeng Yai Mak, etc, which will surely become the interested spots to the visitors.

Local products and rich culture are other fascinating things of Sakaew. Come with this land, tourists have a great chance to experience varied kinds of local products as Khao Lam- sticky rice in bamboo stick, Cantaloupes, Silk of Ban Han Sai-a hand-woven fabric in traditional styles, Basketry with a lot of forms of bamboo fishtraps, Bamboo Ceramics, Wooden products, I Hoi Wine, etc. Sakaew is also a land of rich culture and traditions which have remained for a long time as Eastern Cultural Fair and Sakaew Red Cross Fair which is organized during mid-February every year with singing contest, exhibitions, various forms of entertainment and products; Cantaloupe Day (during April) with agricultural products contests, cantaloupe beauty contest and various entertainment performances; Dok Kaew Blooming Day with a procession of presentation,  singing contest and entertainment activities.
