Yasothun is the smallest province of the lower northeastern region of Thailand which covers an area of 4,161 square kilometers with 9 districts. It was founded by the Revolutionary Council of Field Marshal Thanom Kittikachorn in 1972 as it was separated from the Ubon Ratchathani province.

Yasothon is known for its Rocket Festival, which is held annually in May with home-made rockets and live music and dancing. It’s also famed for democracy, watermelon, Khit cloth, Kwan pillows and jasmine rice. This is the land of diverse culture with a wide range of cultural and historical sites as Wat Maha That Buddhist temple, Phra That Yasothon ancient stupas, Hor Trai or Library for Buddhist criptures, etc. Numerous beautiful natural attractions are also found in Phaya Tan Park. Yasothon is home to handicrafts in local villages including Ban Si Than for iconic Thai triangular pillows, Ban Thung Nang Oak for bamboo basketry, Ban Na Samai for carved miniature cart, etc.

Beside Rocket Festival, Garland Festival is also the famous festival held during Makha Pucha Day with the unique parade and interesting activities. Many traditional ceremonies take places during the event with numerous people joining.
